Two persons have been jailed by an Akoko-Edo Magistrate Court for gang-raping a 16-year old secondary school student.

The convicts – Monday Ogedengbe and Dauda Iyamah – were sentenced to four years imprisonment or an option of N400, 000 fine after they pleaded guilty to the offence.

The third suspect that allegedly held down the victim while others raped her is still at large.

The convicts threatened to kill the victim who is a student of Ososo Grammar School, if she reports the crime.

She was reportedly dragged out of her school compound and gang- raped by the two young men with assistance of the fleeing suspect.

The culprits were apprehended by the Ososo Vigilante and handed over to policemen at Igarra division.

The Executive Director, Brave Heart Initiative for Youth and Women (BHI), Priscilla Usiobaifo, who filed the case on behalf of the victim, expressed reservation about the option of fine given to the convicts.

Usiobaifo said the victim’s parents wanted to drop the case but the group stood in as guardian with support from the girl’s uncle and cousins.
